My Weird Dream about John Green

October 3, 2010

So. There’s this guy.

His name is John Green.

He is an author of young adult fiction and a member of the Vlogbrothers, who are two brothers (John and Hank) who make highly amusing videos for the Youtubes, and I watch them.

Anyway. I’ve known about the Green Brothers since….2008…and have since then read the majority of the books written by John Green.

But other than the fact that I’ve read the books and watch the videos, I don’t think much about John Green.

At least, I didn’t think I did.

Crush of the Month: Sleepy Hollow

September 18, 2010

Since I haven’t updated in awhile, I’ll publicly announce that  I’m now working at a publishing house located in Tarrytown, NY. The area is gorgeous and I love my commute to/from work everyday. It has trees. And it reminds me that there are places outside of the city. I fact, I haven’t actually been to Manhattan in….awhile. (Everything I need is in Queens! And I work elsewhere, so there’s really no need to go there unless I’m meeting up with people, which I normally do on the weekends.)

Anyway. I discovered that Tarrytown is 1.7 miles away from Sleepy Hollow.

Like, THE Sleepy Hollow.

Crush of the Month: All Things Pumpkin

August 28, 2010

Y’all. I effing love pumpkins.

I think they are gorgeous as a squash (I had to Wikipedia to find out what sort of food group pumpkin falls in), I like decorating with them, and I loooove eating/drinking pumpkin flavored things.

Something that has surprised me is that there is a plethora of pumpkin flavored options to eat in NYC during the summer. Maybe it’s just my seasonal bias/ignorance talking, but I always thought that pumpkins were a fall only squash and that there was really no other time to use them.

I am so wrong. And I love that.

My 2010-2011 Goals

August 28, 2010

January 1st is a terrible day to set goals. Think about it–it’s just a gross day full of hangovers and cold weather and the end of the Christmas season. Who really wants to set major goals on a day like that?!

I much prefer an indeterminate date that falls around the beginning of the school year. Even if you’re not in school, there are so many things on the horizon–the weather is on the verge of switching from sweltering summer to awesome autumn, football season is right around the corner, and fall television shows are about to debut. Since everything else that matters in life (haha….I’m only sort of joking) is on the verge of revamping itself, why shouldn’t I do the same?

I find this urge to be especially poignant this year, as I’m beginning a new job in a new city in my first year out of any kind of school (so weird!).  So before my life changes anymore, there are some big goals that I want to set…and actually achieve.

These are the kinds of goals I’ve always kept in the back of my mind for as long as I can remember. They’re things that I either didn’t have the money or the time or the resources to achieve…or things that I just thought were silly or not worth it. So, I’ve decided that this is the year I’m going to publicize my goals….because somehow I feel that telling the abyss that is the Internet about my personal goals will keep me accountable…as hilarious as that is.

And although goals like “I want to travel” are definitely on my list, I’m going to try and make my list more specific so that these are goals that are actually achievable and not so broad that they don’t really mean anything. Besides, my Travel category would probably take up all of the room on the Internet.

1. Go to Paris.

2.  Give back.

3. Go to yoga class at least once a week.

4. Learn when to say nothing.

5. Spend more time outdoors.

6. Keep in touch.

7. Cook more often.

8.  Save 20% of each paycheck. (This is probably going to be the hardest one to fulfill…)

9. Become more comfortable saying what I feel.

10. Follow politics.

Crush of the Day: Pretty Little Liars Intro

August 11, 2010

To indulge the 14-year-old girl inside of me, I spent the entirety of yesterday watching the Pretty Little Liars marathon on ABC Family. No, I had never seen the show before and no, I had never read the books before. And although the acting is mediocre at best and it’s on ABC Family, the show is a less sassy cross between Veronica Mars, Heathers, and Mean Girls and I found myself really enjoying it once I allowed myself to get past the look-at-how-hip-we-are pop culture references and product placement.

But what really sold the show for me (other than Ian Harding….) was the intro to the show.

I’m pretty much obsessed with this.
