What’s Making Me Happy {16}

June 17, 2012

Hello Internet People.

It’s Father’s Day! The day we celebrate fathers! I hope you all have very exciting plans of golfing or grilling food stuffs or drinking with or at least calling the father figure in your life.

And maybe you’ll share the things that are making you happy this week with him.

Even if he doesn’t get it, I’m sure he’ll be happy it makes you happy.

Like, for example, this ridiculous rap about romantic literature. My dad would *not* get this.

And I’d probably be concerned if he did.

1. Ridiculous Raps about Romantic Literature

2. Zip Lines

There is a ZIP LINE coming to Union Square this summer! I want to be ON IT.

3. Astrophysicist talks about superhero and alien movies on NPR Morning Edition.

If you like things like science and how it’s relevant in alien and superhero movies, you should listen to this. Mostly because they talk about Mjulnir (Thor’s hammer).

4. New Milo Greene Song!

I really dig this band. A whole bunch. And their debut album comes out next month, which is really very exciting for me because that means they’re going on tour, which means that I am seeing them liiiiiiive. Yes.

But they’ve released a new songy-song, and it’s good. Make your ears happy by listening to it.

5. This photo of Gabriel Macht

I mean, right? Also SUITS IS BACK ON MY TELEVISION EVERY WEEK.

Good Lord do I love Suits.

6. Pitch Perfect Trailer

My girl crush on Anna Kendrick continues.

ALSO. BLACKSTREET.

7. The Lost Tributes of the Hunger Games

Happy Sunday everyone!

What I’m Writing: Random Inspiration, Or That Time I Was on the Train Listening to Pandora

June 16, 2012

Sometimes, when I get stuck or I run out of steam or I feel like my book is going nowhere, instead of throwing my hands up (not like Miley) and walking away and refusing to think about it for days on end until I feel like thinking about it again, what I really need is a jolt of inspiration.

It doesn’t have to be a big jolt. It can be something as simple as a photo or a thought or a quote or a song. It’s really incredible how powerful just a tiny little something like that can be.

Take Wednesday night for example.

TGIF: My Most Valuable Book

June 15, 2012

FRIDAY, Y’ALL.

*does Friday dance*

Most Valuable Book: From your personal collection of books, which ones hold the most value to you – is it signed by the author? or maybe it’s your favorite story of all time? Share it with us.

I was so excited about this week’s question that I VLOGGED it.

I actually made WAY MORE of a vlog than that, but apparently my start-up disk is almost full and it quit recording without me realizing it, so I was just going on and on about stuff like a giant dork.

Like how I’m so grateful and honored and sort of flattered that both Farrah Penn and Rachel Scroggins grabbed books for me at BEA when it turned out I wasn’t gonna make it there because I couldn’t get out of work.

And then the story of my most hilariously signed book, A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray, who asked me if my name is spelled like the housewife’s. (Bethenny Frankel.) It is not.

Can we all just take a moment and appreciate how GORGEOUS Libba Bray’s handwriting is?

And then I made the mistake of talking about 1) my complete collection of Jane Austen, which an ex bought me before we were together, and 2) my collection of Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic books.

Yeahhhhh. Be glad my computer’s start-up disk is almost full.

HAPPY FRIDAY!

Tune in Tuesday: The National Sings a Game of Thrones Song

June 12, 2012

So, perhaps I’m a little obsessed with Game of Thrones.

(It’s fine.)

And perhaps I really like this band called The National.

And perhaps The National sang a song for the Game of Thrones soundtrack.

Yeah. That happened.

And it’s not a situation where one of their songs was used for the soundtrack. They recorded one of the folk songs that is talked about in the books a lot to be played during the credits of a really huge episode of the series, in which MANY THINGS changed.

It was WAY exciting for this little nerdgirl right here.

Happy Tuesday!
