Words of Wisdom for Your Wednesday

Tune In Tuesday: Maroon 5
Let’s just get real for a second, ok?
We need to discuss the matter of Adam Levine.
Now, we all know that Adam Levine is a nomalicious piece of man-cake, yes?
YES. WE DO.
If for some reason you are feeling excluded by my use of the royal we, then let me present Exhibit A:

Look at the smile. So swoon-worthy. And he can rock a cardigan like a boss.
But, okay, you’re not convinced. I understand.
EXHIBIT B:

I mean, c’mon. You cannot deny the yumminess of his man-cake.
God, that sounded really dirty. But you know what I mean. (Yeahhhh you do.)
But in addition to being a beautiful specimen of man, I also really dig his voice. I’ve been a Maroon 5 fan since the Songs about Jane days, and say what you will about the band or roll your eyes at their music—whatever makes you happy. But their songs are catchy as hell and you know you turn that shit up when you’re driving around. And their newest song “Payphone” featuring Wiz Khalifa is not different.
It’s definitely more on the slow jam side, but I like a good slow jam. Especially heading into the summer.
Also, I should mention how much I love the fact that the song is about a payphone of all things. Because I’m pretty sure there are not very many of those in existence any longer. For some reason the novelty of a song being about a payphone in 2012 really amuses me. And I really hope that during the songwriting process some PR/business-type person was all, “Do we think this song will resonate with the youth today? I mean, do they even know what a payphone is?” And then Adam Levine was all, “Who the fuck cares, it’s a great song! And I’m pretty and on The Voice so it will sell, man. Calm yourself.” And that was that.

What’s Making Me Happy {8}
I can finally tell you the vague thing I’ve been taunting you with for, like, ever.
Are you ready?
Ok, let’s do this!
I am officially the new assistant editor at It Books, HarperCollins.
So yeah. I’ve been doing the new job happy dance since, basically last week, when I received the tentative offer. And I’m SO RELIEVED that I’m finally able to go public with the news.
Because I’m pretty much the worst secret-keeper ever.
This is still insane to me. And totally, completely happy making.
And though my new job is making me very happy this week, there are some other things making me happy, too.
1. Dance Academy

Back in November, right after Thanksgiving, I was not in a happy place. So I spent about four days moping around my apartment, being all Bella Swan. And then I found this Australian show on Netflix called Dance Academy. It’s basically Center Stage, but in Australia. Now since I spent pretty much fifteen years of my life in a dance studio, I will absolutely watch any and every dance movie/documentary/show available. So I started watching Dance Academy and blew through the first season in, like, two days. AND NOW THERE ARE NEW EPISODES ON NETFLIX, OMG.
I love this show.
I am also exceedingly excited about The CW’s new summer series, Breaking Pointe.
2. My Impending Apartment Redesign

So, both of my roommates are moving out of our apartment, and with them all of the living room, dining room, and kitchen furniture is leaving too. Which means that I have to refurnish and redecorate. While this is a little bit stressful due to the fact that I have to buy stuff, and stuff is expensive. BUT! I also get to REDESIGN the apartment!
You better believe I set up a Pinterest board full of ideas and color palettes and possible furniture pieces. Now I just need to decide on a direction and GO GO GO.
3. Carey Mulligan and Marcus Mumford are married!

There are so many things I like about this. Mostly that they were childhood pen pals. And that COLIN FIRTH attended their wedding. And that I can call them “Mumfordigan.” Also, um, Marcus Mumford is 24. Which means I am older than him. For some reason that really freaks me out.
4. The Revenge Boys

This picture is the best. THE BEST. It’s impossible to look at it and not be ridiculously happy.
And those are the things that are making me happy this week. I hope you also had a great week full of happy-making things and are enjoying your Sunday!
PSA: I Need Two Roomies.
Good morning, lovelies!
So it turns out that I’m in the market for two one great new roommates who can move in on June 1st.
If you live in the NYC area and are looking for a comparatively inexpesive, spacious, gorgeous place with a WASHER AND DRYER in Yonkers, very close to lots of transportation options (5 minute walk to nearest Metro-North stop, 30 minute train ride to the Grand Central, 20 minutes to White Plains) then this is probably the place for you.
Unless you are a person who owns a snake. You cannot live with me if you have one of those.
If you’re interested, please check out the Craiglist ads for more information.
Thanks and happy Saturday!
TGIF: Book Blogging Influences
Hello there lovelies.
It’s Friday.
I wish old school TGIF on television was still a thing. I used to get so excited on Fridays, knowing that I’d get to go home and order a pizza and watch Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and Boy Meets World with my mom and sister.
Alas.
Onto this week’s question!
Book Blogger Influences: Has there been a particular book blogger who’s influenced what you read? Share with us a review/book blog that convinced you to pick up a certain book.
Oh good hoogity-boogity yes. I feel like most books I read are recommended to me by book blogger friends or via their enthusiasm for specific authors.
For example, I probably would’ve never picked up Saving June by Hannah Harrington—one of my favorite books I read last year—had a ton of bloggers I follow on Twitter not swooned over it for about two weeks straight. The same goes for Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson and Shade by Jeri Smith-Ready which were recommended to me with much aplomb by Ginger and Jen and for Anna and the French Kiss which I picked up based on a review by Jaime at Perpetual Page-Turner, who, btw, is an absolute doll.
But other bloggers whose taste I completely trust and pull from often are Farrah Penn, Tara at Fiction Folio, Lisa from Lisa Is Busy Nerding, whom I often nerd out with over The Song of Ice and Fire series, Anna at Anna Reads, and Melanie at Reclusive Bibliophile.
But it’s not just book bloggers I get book recs from. Most of my friends are bookish and I love chatting with them about what they’re reading, no matter the genre or subject matter.
So hooray books! And hooray Friday!
